Lydia Sommers, Cochranton (E. Fairfield Twp.) passed away early Monday morning, April 22, 2024, at the UPMC Hamot, Erie. She was 77.
She was born in Hadley on October 25, 1946, a daughter of the late Elmer and Elizabeth (Yoder) Slabaugh. On August 26, 1967, she married Mervin E. Sommers, who survives. She was a homemaker raising her children and along with her husband, sharing their home raising many foster children through the years. She was a member of the Wadsworth Avenue Evangelical Church, had been a Sunday School Teacher and a Church Deaconess. She was a former member of the Heirloom Doll Society. Lydia is remembered by her family as being an excellent cook and organizer.
She is survived by her husband, Mervin; her children, Todd Sommers and his wife Julianne, Cochranton, Robin Sommers and his wife Marnie, Meadville, Joseph Paul Newsome, Cochranton, Melissa Warner and her husband Cal, Ripley, New York and Jennifer Russell, Linesville; a sister, Irma Malone, Oil City, a brother, Henry Slabaugh, Utica, 3 grandchildren, Gabriella Sommers, Ethan Sommers and Caleb Sommers.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Wadsworth Avenue Evangelical Church, 339 Wadsworth Ave., Meadville with Pastor William Wisniewski officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Maple Grove Amish Mennonite Cemetery, Deer Creek Twp. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 3223 Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville
